About

Built by someone still in the shot.

ROM AnimTools is made by Romario Marshall, an animator working in Maya, under New Kingz Inc. Every tool here started as a problem in his own shot — not a feature on a roadmap.

Romario at work / a shot in progress

Why this exists.

Maya is a deep application with a lot of sharp edges. Animators end up with a scripts folder — one thing from a forum, one from a colleague, one written at 2am — and no two of them agree about anything. They break when Maya updates. Nobody maintains them. You maintain them.

ROM started the same way, as personal scripts for personal shots. The difference is what happened next: instead of leaving them as a folder, they were rebuilt as one suite with shared conventions, a shared timeline, one installer, and one place to update everything. 15 tools that behave like one workspace, because they were made to work together rather than collected.

That is also why the free tier is a real tier and not a trial. The everyday tools — posing, timing, keys, bookmarks, drawing, arcs — stay free permanently. If ROM only ever saves you time on those, that is a fair outcome. Pro exists for the production work that comes after.

How it gets built.

Tested before it ships

Every tool runs against a regression suite before release. Rig safety is not a feature, it is a gate — tools that touch controls are checked so a smear or a temp control can never leave your rig altered.

Your scene is never the experiment

Effects are built on ROM-owned duplicates, helpers are removable, and previews are reversible. If you back out, the scene is exactly as you left it.

One licence, one workspace

Install once from inside Maya. Updates are verified before they install, and only what your plan grants is ever offered.

Feedback goes straight in

The roadmap is shaped by animators describing shots that took too long. That is where most of these tools came from in the first place.

Art of Romario.

Alongside the tools there is a channel — animation work, breakdowns, and the thinking behind how these tools got made. If you want to see the tools used on real shots rather than in a feature list, start there.
